Elite Dangerous Child Champion

I played around with a few concepts before I came up with this idea. It was a bit of a mess, especially when I was painting in the face under the pressure of my grandmother watching me. It was a fun challenge in any case. Ever since I messed around with Iray I have become a fan of bloom. Painting that effect is really hard and I still find myself using layer effects instead of brushes. Any recommendations is appreciated.
